Love Labor Day with These Party Tips

Summer’s on its way out, but we still have Labor Day to look forward to! As the one day of the year dedicated to celebrating and rewarding the hard-working men and women of America, it calls for a good party!  Think of it as your last opportunity to send off the season in style. These last few months of summer have been a lot of fun with cookouts, pool parties, and the Fourth of July. But your Labor Day party should top them all! Make it a truly memorable event with these 5 tips:

Pick a Theme

Add creativity to your summer bash with a festive theme. Labor Day is your last chance to wear white, so a white-out party is always a fun option. Patriotic themes are also popular picks. For a more vibrant event, try a tropical theme. Break out the tiki torches, crank up the reggae music, and encourage guests to wear Hawaiian shirts, flip flops, and sunglasses!

Entertainment for Everyone

Chances are you’ll have more than one age group attending your party, so make sure everyone is entertained. Hire a local musician or spotlight your family’s aspiring artist with a makeshift stage on the patio or deck. If you prefer to stream music, make sure your playlists are family friendly. Set up activity areas for children to have their faces painted, work on arts and crafts projects, and play games. If you opt for an island theme, a giant sandbox or slip ‘n’ slide could add fun for all ages.

Go All Out with Grilling

It wouldn’t be a deck party without grilling, so bring on the barbecue! You can’t go wrong with hamburgers and hot dogs, but why not make a more creative menu for Labor Day? Get mouths watering with grilled bacon potatoes, chicken and veggie kebobs, rib-eyes, and corn on the cob. Shrimp, oysters, and fish fit perfectly with a tropical party. And in Maryland, you can’t forget the crabs!

Light Up the Night

You may not be allowed to use fireworks at your party, but you can still add color to the night with custom firecracker lights. Start by cutting several fringes into stacks of red tissue paper. Wrap the paper strips around the base of string lights and apply with hot glue. Carefully pull apart the fringes to give off an exploding firecracker effect. You can add even more color by using colored bulbs.

Garden Game Night

Games are a great way to up the excitement, so add some custom competition to your next event. Cornhole is a great game for any age, or maybe try something different like lawn gnome bowling. Just take ten two-liter soda bottles, clean off the plastic wrapping, and rinse them out. Once dry, fill them with gravel or sand. You don’t want them too heavy, but make sure they won’t be able to blow over. Paint them white with spray paint, and then involve your kids or grandkids by letting them paint each with garden gnomes or their favorite cartoon characters. You might have a set you can use long after Labor Day!
