Pressure-Treated Lumber

The most widely used natural wood decking material for many decades, roughly 75% of all new deck construction is done with pressure-treated (PT) lumber, and there are plenty of good reasons why. Chiefly, pressure-treated lumber is the most affordable, and widely manufactured wooden decking material. The majority of pressure-treated wood decking is cut from southern yellow pine. The wood Excel uses is specially treated to repel wood-damaging insects, decay, and fungus. It’s worth noting that PT wood decking does require some routine maintenance too, including an annual power washing and an application of stain or clear wood preservative every two or three years to prevent cracking.
